In-person absentee voting for the November 2 City/School Election opens in the Decatur County Auditor’s office at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, and ends at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 1.
A written request for a mailed absentee ballot must be received by the Auditor’s Office before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18. Due to recent legislation, this is sooner than it has been in the past. Request forms are available at the Auditor’s Office, on the Decatur County website (click on attachment below) and on the Iowa Secretary of State website.
Ballots requested through the mail must be received by the County Auditor by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Also, due to recent legislation, the general county dropbox at the courthouse CANNOT be used for returning voted absentee ballots. Signage will be placed on the dropbox to remind voters not to use it for voted absentee ballots.
